If you really think you graduated with a great degree (finance or maybe Economics) from a top-tier school (Ivy or Almost-Ivy) and you are signing on to work for a bulge bracket firm (lets say there about 5 to 8 of them) and plan to be there for 2 years and then either be promoted to a Senior Analyst title, move on to a PE shop or leave for b-school, what hours are you willing to work?

Most analysts in M&A banking are working between 80-95 hours per week and starting salaries across the top firms are $60,000 these days. Lets say you get 14 vacation days and a few personal days, you will probably work over 320 days on the year (most of you are working Saturday and Sunday for at least 6 hours each day), you are working over 4,200 hours on the year, and your salary is only worth around $13 and hour gross pay. Fine, figure a $40,000-$70,000 bonus (depending on who you are and how you perform), that still doesn't work out to much.
